About us
Yura Yungi (meaning 'Good One') Medical Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in the East Kimberley town of Halls Creek. Since our establishment in 1987, we have walked alongside our community, providing culturally grounded, holistic healthcare that responds to the needs of Aboriginal people, from before birth all the way to end of life care.
Our story began when local Aboriginal leaders, concerned by the lack of appropriate healthcare in the region, came together to advocate for a service that truly understood and respected the people it aimed to support. Out of their strength and vision, Yura Yungi was born, creating a health service created by community, for community.
Today, Yura Yungi delivers comprehensive primary healthcare services that combine curative treatments with integrated preventative programs. From maternal and child health to chronic disease management, women’s health, and sexual health services, our team works tirelessly to deliver care that reflects the values and lived experiences of the people we serve. We use systems like the MMEx database to ensure our services are coordinated, evidence-based, and responsive to the unique needs of our clients.
But our commitment goes beyond the walls of our clinic. We offer outreach programs and transport support to make sure everyone in the East Kimberley, no matter how remote, can access the care they need. First aid kits and basic pharmaceuticals are provided to outstations, and we coordinate specialist appointments and transport to ensure continuity of care. We regularly visit communities such as Ringer Soak, Redhill, Nicholson Block and Mardiwah Loop, staying connected with the people who need us most.
At Yura Yungi, we believe in “walking the talk.” That means every member of our team works with professionalism, compassion and respect, for each other, for our clients, and for the community. Together we are proud to be a community-driven organisation working for lasting, generational change in Aboriginal health.
