Chona migrated from the Philippines in 2013, bringing with her a rich background in Psychology, Business Management, and Community Development. She joined YYMS in 2018, beginning her journey as the Quality & Risk Manager, where she led key initiatives to strengthen governance and compliance frameworks across the organisation.
Her role evolved into Executive Manager – Business Development & Strategy, reflecting her expanding leadership across critical operational areas. Today, Chona oversees a broad portfolio that includes Reporting, Grant Application, Quality, Risk & Compliance, Contracts, Medicare & Data, Reception, Clinic Administration, and Patient Assisted Travel (PATS). As YYMS has grown, functions such as Human Resources and Finance and Executive Support, which were previously under her remit, have transitioned into dedicated departments to support the organisation’s continued expansion and strategic development.
A hallmark of Chona’s leadership has been her stewardship through two successive RACGP accreditations, both achieved with exemplary results and zero adverse findings, a testament to her commitment to quality, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Chona is deeply passionate about mentoring staff, celebrating their growth from entry-level roles into leadership positions. She also leads the organisation’s peer support initiative, Tick Talk Fridays, dedicating Friday afternoons to guiding colleagues, sharing knowledge, and fostering personal connections in a relaxed and supportive environment.
For Chona, Halls Creek is more than just a place, it is home. It’s where she became a mother after a long wait, not once but twice, making the town an enduring part of her personal and professional story. She views leadership not merely as managing systems, but as nurturing people, cultivating a workplace culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and empowered. For her, it’s all about blending purpose with people power.
