Celebrating 50 Years of NAIDOC at Yura Yungi

The 2025 NAIDOC Week marked a historic milestone, 50 years of honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, achievements, and ongoing resilience. Yura Yungi embraced this year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, by hosting a vibrant community event filled with activities for children, prizes, and a shared lunch that brought families and community members together.

Drawing on the spirit of this year’s theme, NAIDOC reminds us that the movement began as a call for justice and recognition led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Today, it stands as a celebration of cultural pride and the strength of community. As NAIDOC reflects on five decades of progress, it also highlights the importance of empowering young people who will continue carrying the legacy forward.
