World No Tobacco Day occurs every year on 31 May, raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and encouraging people to live healthier, smoke-free lives.
This year’s theme, “Unmasking the Appeal,” focuses on exposing how tobacco and vape industries make their products look attractive, especially to young people. From bright packaging and sweet flavours to social media influence, these tactics can hide the serious health risks behind smoking and vaping.
In support of this message, our Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) team delivered a range of activities across the Halls Creek community during World No Tobacco Week (25–29 May 2026).
During the week, we engaged with young people through meaningful health promotion, including four interactive education sessions with students at Halls Creek District High School. These sessions helped raise awareness about the impacts of smoking and vaping, while empowering students to make healthy, informed choices.
We also travelled to Warmun, where we hosted a community stall to raise awareness about the harms of second-hand smoke and promote smoke-free environments.
In addition, we delivered a session with participants from Garnduwa’s football team, supporting young people to build knowledge and awareness around the impacts of smoking and vaping.
We wrapped up the week with a bright and energetic World No Tobacco Day colour run at Halls Creek District High School, bringing students and staff together to celebrate healthy, smoke-free lifestyles in a fun and positive way.
A big thank you to the school, staff, students, and community members for your ongoing support and participation!
