Yura Yungi Menkawum Ngura Elders Residence were proud to welcome community members to celebrate the completion of renovations at the facility — an important milestone in strengthening care and support for Elders in our region.
The renovations mark a significant step forward in improving the comfort, safety and overall environment for residents. The upgrades ensure our Elders have access to a welcoming and culturally safe space where they can continue to live with dignity while remaining connected to their community and Country.
This achievement follows an important journey for the organisation. In 2023, Yura Yungi Aboriginal Medical Service became the provider of the aged care service, and in 2024 officially took over management of the facility. Since then, the organisation has been committed to improving the facility and ensuring the level of care provided reflects the respect and value our Elders deserve.
These renovations were made possible through funding provided by the Department of Health, which supported the upgrades and improvements that have transformed the facility into a more comfortable and welcoming space for residents.
The celebration day saw a strong turnout from the community, with many people coming along to show their support and share in the milestone. Guests had the opportunity to tour the renovated facility and see firsthand the improvements that have been made.
Following the tour, community members joined the Elders for a shared lunch, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere where people could connect, yarn and celebrate together.
Yura Yungi Menkawum Ngurra Elders Residence would like to thank everyone who attended the celebration and continues to support the organisation’s work in caring for and honouring our Elders. The organisation remains committed to ensuring Elders receive high-quality care in a safe and supportive environment close to their community and Country.
