Yura Yungi Medical Service and Yura Yungi Elders Residence recently came together in support of Cancer Council Australia's Biggest Morning Tea initiative, raising both funds and awareness for a cause that impacts countless individuals, families and communities across Australia.

For Yura Yungi Medical Service, supporting the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea has become a valued tradition. This year marked our fourth consecutive year participating in the initiative, with staff once again demonstrating their generosity, compassion and commitment to making a difference. Each year, our fundraising efforts continue to grow, with our team consistently meeting and exceeding our fundraising targets in support of vital cancer research, prevention and support services.

The Yura Yungi Medical Service event brought staff together for a special morning tea focused on education, awareness and community. During the gathering, our General Practitioner delivered an informative presentation on cancer, highlighting the importance of prevention, early detection, screening and ongoing awareness. The session provided an opportunity for staff to learn more about the impact of cancer and the role we can all play in supporting better health outcomes within our communities.

Following the presentation, staff enjoyed a shared morning tea, with team members contributing a variety of homemade dishes and treats. The event showcased the strong sense of teamwork and community spirit that exists across our organisation, with everyone coming together to support a common cause.

Fundraising activities were a key part of the day. Several staff members generously volunteered their time to prepare meal packs that were sold to colleagues, with all proceeds donated directly to the Cancer Council. A fundraising raffle also proved popular, helping to further boost donations and support the important work being undertaken by the Cancer Council.

At Yura Yungi, we choose to support this initiative because cancer affects so many lives. Whether directly or indirectly, most people have been touched by cancer in some way. By participating in the Biggest Morning Tea, we are helping to fund critical research, support services, education programs and advocacy efforts that improve outcomes for people living with cancer and their families. It is an opportunity for us to come together, start important conversations, raise awareness and contribute to meaningful change.

Our Yura Yungi Elders Residence team also proudly showed their support by hosting an all-staff Biggest Afternoon Tea. This year marked the second consecutive year that the Elders Residence has participated in the initiative, continuing its growing commitment to supporting the Cancer Council and raising awareness about the impact of cancer.

Staff gathered for an afternoon of connection, reflection and awareness, taking the opportunity to learn more about cancer and the importance of supporting those affected by the disease. The event provided a valuable opportunity for staff to come together outside of their daily responsibilities while contributing to a cause that resonates with many members of our workforce and wider community.

The continued participation of both Yura Yungi Medical Service and Yura Yungi Elders Residence reflects our organisation's commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through education, fundraising and awareness, we are proud to stand alongside Cancer Council Australia in the fight against cancer.

Cancer remains one of Australia's leading health challenges, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds and communities. Initiatives such as Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea play a vital role in funding life-saving research, supporting prevention and screening programs, and ensuring that individuals and families impacted by cancer can access the support they need.

We extend our sincere thanks to every staff member who donated, volunteered, prepared food, purchased meal packs, bought raffle tickets or simply took part in the events. Your generosity and support have helped contribute to a cause that continues to make a real difference in the lives of Australians affected by cancer.

Together, we are helping to create hope, raise awareness and support a future with better outcomes for everyone impacted by cancer.
